Seven Blades in Black by Sam Sykes5/30/2023 The book begins after Sal has been arrested and is awaiting execution and she is telling her story. It focuses on Sal the Cacophony, a Vagrant and a bounty hunter who hunts down her fellow vagrants and kills them in increasingly bloody ways. There are some excellent parts but there are also some rather glaring weaknesses which stop this book from being as amazing as it could have been. Seven Blades in Black is a novel which has a lot of potential. All she has left is her name, her story and the weapon she used to carved both. Betrayed by those she trusted most, her magic torn from her and awaiting execution, Sal the Cacophony has one last tale to tell before they take her head. But vengeance is a flame swift extinguished. The Scar, a land torn between powerful empires, is where rogue mages go to disappear, disgraced soldiers go to die and Sal went with a blade, a gun and a list of names she intended to use both on. Once revered, now vagrant, she walks a wasteland scarred by generations of magical warfare. And among mages, none have will like Sal the Cacophony. Summary: Among humans, none have power like mages. I don’t mind the black, white and red colouring but the face is really jarring. I am going to admit, I’m not really a fan of the cover. Blood scion review5/30/2023 But when she is forcibly conscripted into the Lucis army on her fifteenth birthday, Sloane sees a new opportunity: to overcome the bloody challenges of Lucis training, and destroy them from within. Under the Lucis’ brutal rule, her identity means her death if her powers are discovered. I will be the worst monster they ever created.įifteen-year-old Sloane can incinerate an enemy at will-she is a Scion, a descendant of the ancient Orisha gods. Thank you to Coloured Pages for doing this tour, and let me be on it! I’m so excited to share Blood Scion and everything I love about it! Paris by Paris Hilton5/30/2023 In this revealing and thought-provoking book, Paris will separate the creation from the creator, the brand from the ambassador, and show the woman who grew up with incredible privilege, but who was also trapped in a world of unreasonable expectation at a moment when young women were humiliated for sport in a gossip economy on steroids. Paris is the story people have always wanted Paris Hilton to tell – the story of who she really is. Yes, she is the media personality, DJ, entrepreneur, model, singer, actress and icon beloved all over the globe. But there was always more to Paris Hilton than met the eye. Until, in a revealing documentary, she disclosed that her childhood was shattered by two years of strip searches, isolation, beatings, restraint, and brainwashing within the now infamous 'troubled teen industry', Paris Hilton was simply the billionaire heiress America had watched grow up on television, on the internet, and in tabloids. Shocking, funny and surprisingly profound, Paris is the deeply personal memoir of the ultimate It Girl and a stunning inside view of a pop culture phenomenon. Behind Paris Hilton’s meteoric rise from Upper West Side club kid to household name lies her self-proclaimed 'superpower' of ADHD and a hidden history that traumatized and defined her. Peter nimble 35/30/2023 There are also some monstrous creatures and some battles. There are some grisly descriptions in the book such as Peter being found as a baby with his eyes presumably plucked out by a raven. He finds friends, his true identity, and his home. But Peter finds much more than the chance to become a hero. Their only weapons are their wits and Peter’s magical, fantastic eyes. He is given the opportunity to go on a quest, with his new friend Sir Tode, to find and save the Vanished Kingdom. But when Peter happens to steal a mysterious box of eyes, his life changes forever. Peter Nimble and His Fantastic Eyes is the story of Peter, a blind orphan forced into a life of thievery by the cruel Mr. Peter Nimble and His Fantastic Eyes had my kids (and me) hooked from the first pages (or, rather, the first few minutes as we listened to the audiobook). His parents and some of his siblings had already been rounded up in a Aktion, and sent to their deaths and he and his brother have escaped the ghetto. One night, in November 1942, Max Diamant shows up at Fusia's door and asks to stay the night. There she finds everyone gone, except her 6-year-old sister Helena, whom she brings back to Przemsyl with her. But then she learns that the Nazis have killed Izio, Grieving, Fusia decides to go back to the family farm. Fusia is tasked with helping them survive by bringing what she could sneak in by squeezing through the fence. In April 1942, the Diamants are forced to move into the Przemsyl ghetto. But in September 1939, Poland is attacked and invaded by the Nazis and life changes for everyone. Welcomed into the family, Fusia lives there for 3 happy years, during which a secret attraction developes between Catholic Fusia and Jewish Izio Diamant. It is a fictional account of the life of Stefania "Fusia" Podgorska and her yonger sister Helena who were ultimately named as Righteous Among Nations by Yad Vashem for hiding and saving the lives of 13 Jews during the Holocaust.Īt age 12, Fusia decides to leave her family's farm to live with the Diamants, a Jewish family that runs a grocery store in Przemsyl, Poland. I usually think of Sharon Cameron as a writer of science fiction not historical fiction, but she has really outdone herself with The Light in Hidden Places. Tuscan Roots by Angela Petch5/30/2023 In contrast, Davide’s experience seems almost trivial as the bullying he faces is more psychological and he has less vulnerability. His reactions and integrity endear him to us as readers, making us care about him as well as wonder what happens in the interim before the events of the present day. He is extremely likeable but faces numerous challenges including bullying, sexual assault and unexpected fatherhood. I found myself enjoying Giuseppe’s experiences. The narrative is full of the language and culture which draws the reader in to completely immerse us in the story and lives of the characters. The writing is rich and clearly evokes both the Italian landscape and the historical era. However, I haven’t read that previous book so it is not necessary as this works perfectly well as a stand alone novel. A Tuscan Memory is the second book by Angela Petch to feature Anna, an English woman now relocated and married to an Italian. He begins to explore his traditions and heritage. In the present day, Giuseppe’s grandson is struggling with bullies at school. His traditional rural life is changed forever by his experiences at a seminary and then with the rise of Fascism. Giuseppe is a teenager growing up in the inter wars years in Tuscany. Daughter of Dusk by Livia Blackburne5/30/2023 Matter of time before she fully succumbs. Zivah falls prey to the deadly rose plague, she knows it’s only a To celebrate the ROSEMARKED release, I’m offering 3 lucky winners a ROSEMARKED swag pack, which includes a copy of ROSEMARKED and a signed bookplate! Due to sweepstakes laws, entrants must be 18 years or older to participate. It's a painful process, with fights and misunderstandings, anger, laughter and tears, but in the end, they both come out as stronger people. In order to work together, they both have to let go of their own prejudices and preconceptions. The two couldn't be more different, and I had a lot of fun writing their unlikely love story. This story centers on Zivah, a talented healer with an incurable illness, and Dineas, a traumatized soldier. Hopefully, I wove it all into an entertaining and thought-provoking story! Perhaps because of this, my research for the book was equally eclectic, from archery and stick fighting lessons, to chats with memory researchers and soldiers, and lots and lots of reading, including books about leper colonies, hospice care, and PTSD. There are a lot of elements to this book, including a love story, a spy story, reflections on trauma and mortality, medical ethics, and political intrigue. This is Livia Blackburne, and I'm thrilled to share ROSEMARKED with you at long last. If It Ain't Broke by Brenda Barrett5/29/2023 Given the talent involved with these covers, it’s no insult to say that they all improved on Russell’s renditions. With all of these tunes, Russell has gone beyond mere authorship and has actually recorded them herself - either before or, in the case of “Gershwin”, after their more commercially successful versions. Most notable amongst her songwriting credits are Luther Vandross’s “If Only for One Night”, Donna Summer’s “Dinner With Gershwin”, and fellow one-hit-wonder Oleta Adams’s “Get Here”. Most people remember her solely for her 1988 Top Ten ballad “Piano in the Dark” (although she did reach #30 on the US pop charts in 1979 with “So Good, So Right”), but when you factor in the hits that she’s written for other artists, it’s evident that her career is not nearly so one-dimensional. Brenda Russell tends to be slapped with the “one-hit wonder” label quicker than an NBA star is slapped with a paternity suit. |
